LISTEN TO THE MESSAGE, NOT THE MESSENGER
It’s easy for us to disregard a message someone is giving to us based on our assessment of that person. So next time when you receive feedback that stings, focus on what was said more than who said it.
If you don’t respect who spoke it, you can still respect the message being spoken.
If you don’t value hearing it from them, you can still value the message being heard.
If you don’t value hearing it from them, you can still value the message being heard.
If you don’t appreciate how they said it, you can still appreciate the message being said.
What matters most is the point of the message, not the packaging of the message. If you can pay attention to what’s being said more than who’s saying it, then at least you’re willing enough to learn something you might not know.
